In the world of so many sweets….. be that Soan Papdi…..

 

Its that time of the year again… Diwali season – time to spend with family, friends, decorate our houses, light up the diyas 🪔and burst crackers, and of course gobble on the delicacies and sweets 😉😋

 

Diwali ki mithai is a must have and many people gift sweet boxes to their near and dear ones. One of the most common sweet gifted is Soan papdi- “𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘱𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘯𝘵. 𝘐𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳 (𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘢𝘯), 𝘢𝘭𝘭-𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳, 𝘨𝘩𝘦𝘦, 𝘴𝘶𝘨𝘢𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘬. 𝘐𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘶𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘶𝘣𝘦-𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘴 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘱 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘬𝘺 𝘵𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦”  as per google.

 

As per me it is a sweet to be relished. But soan- papdi has a huge ‘fan following’- the social media is flooded every Diwali with memes and messages on Soan Papdi- it being the most quick, easy and affordable gift- yet not losing its value. People fear a gift may be soan papdi or they may get ‘that’ soan papdi back as gift, which they may have gifted to someone else 😄

 

To me Soan papdi is special in its own way – not only for its taste – I love it though

but also because of its ease of going anywhere

– it has no tantrums,

no 𝘫𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘴,

no 𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘩𝘳𝘦

- easy to get or available,

no ego or conceit

- just plain and simple- you like it fine, you don’t? no problem – someone else will.

It’s that easy going person who will always comfort you and will not make you run after him/her.

 

Unlike other sweets which have their own 𝘣𝘩𝘢𝘢𝘷 which they 𝘬𝘩𝘢𝘰 a lot 🤭.

From scrapbooks to insta stories we grew up….

 

In the world of Insta stories and WhatsApp status...did we lose the story of friendship.... ??

The ongoing festive season is throwing many updates from friends and knowns... Smiling faces, dressed up, laughing, enjoying ... All bright colourful pictures coming up every day and brightening one's mood in seeing the cheerful smiles...

Picture of one self, pictures with family and with friends..... That is a word that got me thinking....

 

Who were those people in these pictures apart from the family members... Were they really friends or just known people or just there to get themselves clicked??? Were they really thinking who was clicking, or with whom they were??

 

Of -course mostly people click with others they are comfortable with ... But many people are more concerned with appearing in a person's social media time line.. where does the term friendship fit here.... Are they really friends? Or friends with story benefits? 🤭😉… something to think about… how close can you let them be…

In our good old days, when there was no social media, friendship had a slightly different definition. There were no mobiles, no quick way of communication, but one knew when a friend was in trouble.

 

Even now we have friends who will stand in the pictures and also in the thick and thin of our life with us. That species is still alive 😂.

But the usage of social media, the fear of missing out on things, of not doing the thing which is trending, of not appearing on another person's social media updates, of people not becoming aware of that one new thing we did or ate or met has made many of us get into superficial relations and friendships where we seek for some benefits or something in return. It is more easier to stay in touch online rather than meeting and one loses that personal touch

 

This does not mean that one should not be part of these updates, but just be clear- what and from whom to expect – get clicked and enjoy the fun!!!

How many “yous” can you find…..? None? Many?

 

One fine day, while searching on google, out of nothing-to-do-curiosity I searched for my name on Google…. I could see so many results for Payal Shukla 😄- there were many other Payal Shuklas – one a popular tv actor, another something else. I moved to other social media platforms and searched for my name there- LinkedIn gave me 177 results, Facebook also showed some 100 odd people with same name and so on

 

But each person was different even with a same name – the qualifications, location, and everything else was different for everyone. Some were doing quiet well in life, some were doing nothing, some were still studying, some were quite active some hadn’t posted anything since long. On seeing some LinkedIn profiles I could see the person way ahead in career, on google, the actor with the same name had won many accolades  - I admired some and was inspired by others – people who by luck share the same name – first as well as surname!!! But have different journeys….

 

Looking back, even during school days when all of us in a class were equal in terms of age, intelligence, some have done quiet well in life and some have settled in a comfortable and happy life.. Even on professional side, people with whom we started our initial jobs with, are on different paths now.

 

In short people may be same in terms of name, education, qualification, location etc but each one has a different journey. One may be ahead of another and one may still be lagging behind.

 

Instead of feeling the FOMO (fear of missing out) or getting depressed of one’s own slow journey, and rushing to stay in the race, and loosing own’s peace, enjoy and love your journey whatever it may be.

Don’t try to find another you or lose you to become someone else as everyone has a different journey…

यूँ ही छोटी सी बात पर, संबंध बिगड़ जाते हैं

मुद्दा होता है, सही क्या है?, और लोग सही कौन? पर उलझ जाते है

(People often spoil relations by fighting for who is right rather than what is right)

Something which is so common these days!!!

Last week two of my knowns fought over a useless thing on a popular messenger – each trying to prove her point and belittle the other one. We had to intervene and made them meet and talk face to face rather than use their typing skills!!

With times, the need to prove oneself right has increased so much – rather than finding out what is right most people try to prove to another that whatever they say or think it is the biggest truth.

Earlier people used to keep quiet to prevent matters from worsening. Now people have become impatient. Many listen to respond and not to hear. Infact, many don’t listen, rather read on different messaging or social media platforms. It is easier in this case to say anything to anyone since your identity may not be known.

Not only one wastes time and energy proving one self right, you also lose respect in the eyes of others. It is always goof to fight for what is right- but then you need to chose your wars – and it definitely cant be one on social media where you don’t know the other person or know very vaguely.

It was more easier when these platforms were not around – people gathered and argued 😊 – face to face when it was more easy to understand the intention and tone of the person. Most of the times matters were resolved amicably and opinions were respected – which has become a rarity these days 😊

People were simple and ready to mingle 😉 – they forgot issues several times and moved forward. Now everyone takes it to heart.  Not speaking back is not weakness but maturity on one’s end. I am also not in favour of not speaking up at all !! Speak up and give it back when it comes to your own self respect but in a proper way !!

How much is more convenient…???

 

 

On a holiday in the middle of the week, feeling lazy with a book in hand, I wanted to have a cup of my favourite coffee… but who will get ready, get in the car and head out in the sun to the café few kms away… so I decided to order it online while still in my comfy clothes, reading at leisure…. And there it was  - in a matter of 30 minutes, my favourite cuppa was in my hand!!!

 

Sipping through it and pondering over this, I realised how much life has changed and become easier. You can order food, groceries and now even a high end phone at the convenience of your home or anywhere and get it delivered within minutes. With 10 minute delivery apps, I am able to get the stuff in time lesser than it will take me to get down to the parking !!!

 

One doesn’t need to go out now – you can get everything done at home – including work 😉

You ran out of bread – order it and get it in 10 mins

You ran out of potato – get it with a single click

Don’t feel like cooking or have that sudden craving for your favourite cheese cake – order it

You need a new dress- there is an app for it!!

You need to transfer money- just unlock your mobile!! Or your laptop!!

You need to get a hair -cut- Book an appointment and get it done at home!!

You are not keeping well – Get a video consultation done and get medicines home delivered.

The tap in the bathroom is leaking – book a plumber online rather than visiting a shop

You want to read that famous book – download a print or audio version or order online- what is a library?

Want to learn a new skill or that new dance – join an online class

 

The list is endless making our lives more convenient and easy – helping us stay at home without stepping out – rather stepping out only for fun and not to do specific tasks !!

 

But how much is more convenient? What is the limit to this convenience? How much one can live with this convenience? How much can you??

 

I am a midway person – not a totally online and not a totally offline one.

 

I still prefer to buy things which I can see and check before making that payment- be it food, non food or clothes. You don’t get the feel till you get that stuff in hand.

Buying books online is definitely a no no for me (except when I have finished one in the series and can’t wait to get my hands on the next one 😉)—till the time you don’t visit a bookshop, what is the fun?  

 

I still enjoy the walk or drive to the shop, looking around, buying what is needed + not needed, stopping on the way for other things and coming back home.

As a kid I was often sent to buy things from nearby shop. That was the fun part for me – walking from the house to the shop, enjoying the scenes around, admiring the different goods at the shop and then coming back holding the stuff in a very responsible manner as if I had won a war 😂

 

Stepping out brings a good change – even if it is a short one and I enjoy it.

 

But then are some things which we may need daily or at odd times and have to rely on online options, some which become more convenient than going to a far away place

 

So, I enjoy convenience but at my own pace – I don’t let it enjoy my convenience 😉
