𝑫𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅?

𝑫𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅?

A friend's daughter asked me yesterday... It brought me a smile... And I wanted to say... Yes of course... Who would not and why not and how not and so many nots came to my mind along with the joy and excitement of picking up a book or anything to read. But I came up with a simple answer that yes I do read and love reading..

On the 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐝𝐚𝐲 yesterday, I went back to the days when and how I started reading. As a child I read lots of Hindi comics and story books. Initially it was a remedy adopted by my mom to prevent me from playing outside in the scorching north -ka -summer sun.. she would read me stories and encourage me to delve into the fantasy world. One book led to another and I started enjoying  reading. Reading newspapers in the morning widened my perspective about the world.

Our school library had a huge collection and allowed us to borrow books regularly. This introduced me to the world of classics, and to so many wonderful authors.

Imagining as I read, I enjoyed every moment I spent.

As I grew up, reading reduced with increased studies and other commitments. But I continued reading newspapers, magazines rather than books which took longer time to finish. With time my tastes changed and I started exploring new authors.

When I started working, I joined a library. That was an amazing world and my habit and love for reading was reignited. I borrowed books on different subjects, genres, authors... Read while traveling in metro or during free time. It was always a good break from the daily work routine.

The habit and love for reading has continued and made me a bibliophile with a good personal collection of books.

The time I can devote to it varies now ... with increased sources of entertainment and commitments…..There are days when I am not able to touch a book or read a page at all and then are others where I get engrossed in a novel and forget other things .. .. i don't restrict myself to reading books only.. I read whatever interests me... Be it newspaper, magazines, online articles, or newsletters.

But I try to read every single day... Anything and everything. And encourage everyone around me to do the same.

Reading opens the mind.. allows you to look at things with different perspectives, takes you on lovely journeys without physically going anywhere, enriches your vocabulary and knowledge and above all lets you spend time in the beautiful world of books 😊

So, do you read? If not try starting it with small steps ... You never know what you may discover. If you do, drop in the comments your interesting story of how that beautiful journey started…

I leave you to this thought as I look for the 1000sth time at my lovely collection of books on this 𝑾𝒆𝒅𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒅𝒂𝒚........ 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒈𝒖𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒊𝒅𝒅𝒍𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒌... 𝑹𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒆... 𝑵𝒐𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 '𝒃𝒍𝒖𝒆𝒔' 𝒏𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒘𝒆 '𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒌 𝑮𝒐𝒅' 𝒇𝒐𝒓! 😊

Every problem has a beautiful solution

 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐬 # 105

Every problem has a beautiful solution

‘Mr A was quiet happy today. He had successfully completed one more project today- or a project which was about to end. In few hours he will be credited with the opening of one of the most prestigious hospitals of the city or rather the country. Build with the state-of-the art technology and with the best doctors and people from medical field, this was to be a solution to all medical problems of people. The building was beautifully designed and the entire set up was done in record time. The entire planning of the opening event and getting the hospital and operational staff ready was the responsibility of Mr A who was an expert in this area.
He had spent hours and put in lots of efforts in ensuring that everything was spic and span, the VIPs were invited appropriately, there were suitable arrangements to welcome the chief guest, the hospital itself was also ready to start functioning immediately after the opening ceremony of the hospital. All these arrangements had taken a lot of his time and efforts and he was proud of the result he was seeing.

The chief guest, trustees and other VIP guests were about to arrive and he was taking a quick look at the hospital premises to ensure everything was in order. He took a lift to start from the 11th floor – the lift served all the odd floors – and it was mentioned on the outside of the lift as well as inside. As he got inside the lift he noticed a blunder… the lift had a notification stuck inside “For floors 1,3,5,9,11”… number 7 – the lucky number and one among the list of odd numbers was missing…!!! On reaching the 11th floor he quickly checked the outside and saw the same error. The adjacent 2 lifts serving the odd floors also had the same mistake. A small thing has got missed due to a silly mistake by someone. It was indeed an embarrassing mistake. He immediately called his key team members and informed them of the error. It was difficult to change the sign board since it was inbuilt in the lift. Damage done would need time to repair and was definitely not possible at that moment or till next few days. The team quickly met and was thinking of alternative solutions. They sat in a nearby room and were discussing on what can be done and going through all the last minute arrangements. They had ordered tea. The young guy serving tea heard through the lift problem and asked if he could offer a solution. Since there was no last minute solution available, they asked him to go ahead – he took them outside to the lift, took out a pen from his pocket and wrote the number 7 at the end of the list of numbers. Now the floor number was not missed out, just was out of sequence. Such a simple solution but no one had it in mind.
The whole opening event went well and people did not notice this small error. Even if they did, the number 7 at the end resolved the doubt!!

In life many times there are problems – small and big for which we don’t seem to have any solution – or atleast a solution does not look possible at that moment. But stopping and thinking with cool mind gives solutions to whatever type of problem it may be. The solution could be a very small thing which may have gone unnoticed as in the above case or it could be a big one involving lots of efforts. But there will always be a solution…. And a beautiful one which will give you contentment and a sense of achievement on being able to solve the problem..

I leave you to this thought on this 38° 𝑾𝒆𝒅𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒅𝒂𝒚........ 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒈𝒖𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒊𝒅𝒅𝒍𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒌... 𝑹𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒆... 𝑵𝒐𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 '𝒃𝒍𝒖𝒆𝒔' 𝒏𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒘𝒆 '𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒌 𝑮𝒐𝒅' 𝒇𝒐𝒓! 😊

𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒔𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚…. 𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒂𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒐 𝒕𝒐 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔

𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒔𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚…. 𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒂𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒐 𝒕𝒐 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔

On a recent podcast I heard, the guest, a well- known and established Indian entrepreneur spoke about how she has set her priorities to 4-5 things and has ruthlessly starting saying no to others.

This thought struck me – prioritizing as well as setting the boundaries and saying no for anything outside.

So often we go about our day doing n things without realizing which are more important than others and which are eating up our energy. We never give thought to this and may end up wasting our energy and time.

Prioritizing is a humungous task and many successful people in the corporate world and otherwise still struggle with it. Starting your day with the top priorities in mind would help to shape it up effectively.

One may have 10 things to do at personal and professional level, but if we can prioritize them and work accordingly, it would be more efficient and satisfactory.

So often we think that we don’t get time to certain things – but maybe those are not on top of our list of priorities, or we just miscalculated our priorities.

Health may be priority for one and wealth for another. Fun may be priority of one person and focus on studies maybe a priority for one. Getting up early and spending time with nature may be priority for one and binge watching the latest series may be the priority for another. The way we prioritize, will set the day, the week, month and the years ahead.

Prioritizing also means setting boundaries and saying no to or delaying things which may not be your priority. We often get caught in things which take up lots of our efforts but at the end they may not have been our priority in the first place. Learning and being ok to say no is a task in itself. Often, we do things to avoid missing on them, or out of courtesy or a gesture for a loved or known one. But it may cause extra effort. This may be ok many times but one needs to decide when and whom to say no.

I leave you to this thought on this sweltering hot Wednesday… you are still in the middle of the week and can prioritize the rest of it on this 𝑾𝒆𝒅𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒅𝒂𝒚........ 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒈𝒖𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒊𝒅𝒅𝒍𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒌... 𝑹𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒆... 𝑵𝒐𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 '𝒃𝒍𝒖𝒆𝒔' 𝒏𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒘𝒆 '𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒌 𝑮𝒐𝒅' 𝒇𝒐𝒓! 😊
