Who says you can't communicate if you don't know the language!!
Recently, on the Sunday I landed in Paris, me and my colleague were roaming around and looking
for some vegetarian food
Soaking in the surroundings on that weekend, we were struggling to find something to eat... We came across a burger joint. Thinking that we will surely get something to eat here, we entered it.
There were two people on the counter. They were not from France and could only speak French and their native language with some words of English!!
We were in a fix as to how to explain them what we wanted!!
But all of a sudden everything was resolved. We just spoke 'Vegetarian'. He showed us few ingredients he will use and indicated a potato which he will use to create a patty for the burger and voila!! We had our burger and first lunch in Paris before us!! 😲😄
Munching on the burger and complementary fries... I realised that none of us knew each other’s' language, still we were able to communicate... As we had the same intention - food at that moment and actions and reactions were the language at that time!
Giving a thumbs up or other sign, a quick smile, and the happy look in the eyes were sufficient words to express!!
How many times has this happened with you? When you didn't need words to communicate and were able to pass on the message positively and effectively?
I also happen to be part of a group in my housing society. We as a team come together to organise and celebrate festivals. I notice the same thing there- all of us are from different backgrounds and speak different languages but our intentions and purpose is the same - to celebrate something and we don't need to know the same language to understand what each one wants to say. 😊
This is also true in a team where if the purpose and intention is clear, language, distance and time zones do not matter... Communication happens through the intention
I leave you to this thought with the pics of the burger I ate as my first lunch in Paris without speaking a word 😉
